According to an August 7th CNN business report, although another 1.8 million jobs were added to the US economy in July, we are still down 12.9 million jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. This challenging job market is understandably a source of anxiety for many people who are seeking employment. Transitioning military personnel seeking civilian jobs are filing for unemployment at record rates.  The veteran unemployment rate fell for a third consecutive month in July, but is still nearly twice the pre-pandemic rate recorded in February. While the national unemployment rate fell from 11.1% to 10.2% and improved for all demographic groups,  the rate remains disproportionately high for Black workers at 14.6%. According to a July 15th McKinsey reportwomen’s jobs are 1.8 times more vulnerable to this employment crisis than men’s jobs. Although women make up 39 percent of global employment, they account for 54 percent of overall job losses to date.

I consider myself blessed and fortunate not to have been directly affected by this job crisis. Nevertheless, this issue matters deeply to me. As a military veteran and black female, I feel an obligation to do something to be part of the solution to this problem.

I’m not currently in a position to create thousands of jobs or hire hundreds of job seekers. However, I can impart my knowledge and encouragement to build the hope and confidence of job seekers that will help them stand out in this tight labor market. This is why I'm offering my Career Empowerment Webinar FREE to the public.

I have delivered various versions of this Career Empowerment workshop over the past 10 years through community workforce development programs and employer career empowerment initiatives.  I have updated this popular training to reflect the current conditions resulting from this pandemic and have partnered with the phenomenal Talent Acquisition Leader and ZennExec Staffing owner Tania Jackson to co-facilitate this workshop with me.
