I was introduced to this phrase at a stage in my career when I felt the enormous burden of driving significant improvements in both business performance and organizational culture:

Following these words of wisdom helped me avoid the unnecessary frustration resulting from:
accepting whatever came my way instead of appropriately exerting the control or influence that was rightfully mine
spinning my wheels over things that were completely out of my control

I recently had to remind myself of this lesson, release myself from the pressure of trying to control the things that I could not, and accept the responsibility for those things that I could control and influence.
